Feeding

When is THE BEST time to feed?
Liquid or granular?
Any favorite brand?
Does application need to be precise? (Will a little more or less hurt)

I have a large lilly bed that just celebrated its 9th blooming season and I'm thinking I should get serious
about feeding the guys. I've used a little miracle grow when I water, but not every time and not even every year. I know the soil is being depleted of nutrients so I need to do my part :)

Does the same feeding plan hold true for all perennials? Or does something different need to happen for the new coneflower bed?

Hi Doug,
Most perennials need fertilizer, but I know that there are some that if fertilized will produce lots of foliage, but no flowers. Please can you give a list of the ones that should not be fed. Thank you - so excited about the whole topic.
