HELP

Too much tea?
by: Alex.D

Is it possible to apply too much compost tea to a vegetable plot,Approx.18 x 10? I don't want to over do it, and can I take the small worms from my pile and somehow make a worm "pit"
By the way it was a great ebook. Now tell me where you get the energy from. Compost tea? LOL

Egg Shell question
by: Cherry Clark

Loved it! Wondering about egg shells, My sister in law has been doing compost for about 10 years and always cooks her egg shells before she throws them in her pile. She is afraid of getting salmonella from them. Is there any reason to worry about this? Keep up the good work, we sure enjoy it!

Doug, the information on composting and soil is great... thank you! I have a problem, though, finding articles you mentioned. Is there a way to search your website?

Compost E-Book
by: Anonymous

As always, good and clear information. Compost still overwhelms me inspite of your help! I'm going to review the compost tea info and give that a try. I've been using fish and seaweed emulsion for 2 years now and, you are correct, my plants love it. Thanks for doing what you do!

Compost

Excellant as always, your answers are always simple and clear for anyone to understand.

Thanks

Compost
by: Heather B.

Thanks for addressing all of the questions. Although I thought there would be more 'how to' in the book, for beginners sake's. I think it definitely needs to be addressed as to how wet the pile should be, because some people really soak it and then it won't 'cook' properly. I always say 'like a wrung out sponge'; I think I learned that from another garden writer, but it's all in the 'family'. :)

Great info, so now to continue...

Your articles are ALWAYS helpful. I have two compost bins, but always wondered why they were taking forever to give me the great compost I keep reading about. Now I know why. But you have piqued my interest in compost tea and I really want to know how to make it. It sounds like the answer to my prayers! Thanks Doug!

Compost Tea Outline Needed
by: Susan A

Hi Doug
Great job once again. I would like to learn more on compost tea. I have a part of my back lawn that is in need of help. The grass is turning brown underneath but still green on top. I haven't added anything to it as yet, but your compost tea has go me thinking.
Thanks again
Susan

Great compilation of selected specifics on composting. Obviously not meant to be a one stop shopping document--needs lots more on the "how to" side to get there.

You refer to a video on compost tea and I cannot find it anywhere!!! Help?

Compost Ebook
by: Jan C

Hi Doug,
I echo everyone complements to you for a job well done, and so quick too. I am sure when I go to your site I will find out more about an air pump and making compost tea, that was something new to me. Just to be handy, especially if you publish this later, it would be nice to have a copy/paste of the How To's for: setting up a compost pile, making compost tea, and setting up a worm bin within this document.
At some point I would like to know more about the cover crops you mentioned, (I will look on the website), my soil is really bad and the right plants in the right places die more than they live. I would like to do something over the winter to get the soil ready for spring planting. I have clay soil. Thanks again for all your time.

Clear and Concise

You have addressed the questions clearly and concisely. Another excellent document full of useful information. I now understand the topic better and feel confident that I can put your suggestions to good use. Thanks again for sharing your expertise. The photos are great too.

I Love Compost
by: Anonymous

Thanks so much Doug. I think what you have done here is wonderful but I do believe you want the truth. The truth is that I already learned FROM YOU through your web pages what is in this book. This does simplify things for most people though. I do have a question. I have a pile of compost now about 4x6x4. It is a mix of shredded leaves(I put it through a wood chipper with a shute for leaves) garden greens and kitchen vegetables. Hardly any worms now, is something wrong? I was on a garden tour in Mississauga this year and everyone was impressed and asked me my magic. I showed them my compost pile.

Hi Doug,
Thank you for the compost ebook. I've really been needing help in this area. Now I feel like I can go out and give it a try and it's so good to find out this will actually help my clay soil. I also checked the compost section of your forum to see what I could glean. I sure appreciate all the help you offer and all the time you put into it. I have not found anyone as helpful as you are. Love your sense of humor too!

Helpful information
by: Penny

Thanks for answering people's questionS about making compost. It answered questions that I didn't think to ask. I found it very useful. I'm going out now to start my own pile. I have enough garden waste and tiny wood chips from my shredder. I know that hay has a lot of weed seeds, but properly composted it should provide all the browns I need. You have to use what's available, right? Every leaf on the place will go into compost this fall!
