My favourite spot in the backyard this spring.

My favourite spot in the backyard this spring.

There is a little sign above hanging from the tree that says "Grey hares can be beautiful."
This spot is my latest effort of two years this spring. Deep shade most of the time on the left ranging to morning shade and afternoon sun on the right. It surrounds a huge old tree which means it sucks up water like a sponge. But I love this look...most plants were seedlings or divisions taken from other spots in the yard.

Regarding: Purple flowers in the background.
by: Ferne, Kamloops, B.C.

The purple flowers in the background are
Hesperis matronalis (also known as Dame's Rocket, Dame's Violet etc.) In some places it is a wildlflower. I love it. Just sprinkle some seed...and thin as they come up, so they have lots of room. Wonderful perfume, so I keep some going along my gravelly driveway for the scent. They do much better though under this tree where they get a bit of shade and a fair amount of moisture. Kept on flowering into August to my surprise. Probably three feet tall when they are happy.
