Choosing color for one of my front yard beds

Last year we moved into a new house that had absolutely no landscaping except for the excavated earth around the house.
We soon learned that our soil contained a great deal of slate rock so we needed to work hard to create the right atmosphere for the different plants that we put in this year.
Instead of mulching around plants and bushes around our house, we decided to go a little grazy with dozens of different ground covers.
The area shown is the only one that we have not used ground cover because there will be more rose bushes going in here.
One of my garden beds is for perennial flowers, one bed is for rose bushes, 2 are for all ornamental bushes, one is for tomatoes and herbs, and we are going crazy with the areas around the deck and around the shed.
Retirement is so great!!! While I was in business it would have taken me years to do this.
I was so anxious to get started this winter that my seedlings were started to early and I had vines growing up my curtains and drapes and tomato plants as tall as I am that were too difficult to plant so i had to leave them in the pots. I have pictures of all of this to remind myself not to do the same thing next year.
Some of my seedlings were started indoors, but I am having great luck with sowing outside because we brought in wonderful top soil and I have the time to keep everything from drying out. I have also been composting and using the brown gold to the delight of my plants.
Next year should be really a good one since all my perennials will be old enough to blossom.
I just love getting all the ideal and info from Dave's Garden. He really knows what we need to know before we ask!!!!
Regards to all,
Teri
