Container Garden Trials

The container garden trials are all set up and running. Several different kinds of petunias, angelonia, begonia, euphorbia, marigolds and even geraniums this year.

I'll be posting the results as I go on this blog and in the plant review sections (as I build them out shortly) but I can tell you right now there are some winners and losers (Petunial 'Black Velvet" isn't black but is a deep purple) :-( and the Euphorbia I trial last year is on trial again and is a winner.

There are 9 full sun containers this year - all in the same size clay pot with an artificial soil mix. And another 4 in the shade garden area behind the house (I think I may need a few more large clay pots as I there are a few that are cracking after 10 years in the garden)

But more notes and evaluations coming - I just thought you'd appreciate seeing the sizes of the pots at the start of the season. And yes, I'll be giving you bigger pics and closeups as the pots grow and produce (or not) :-)

Can you grow cannas in containers?

Good ideas folks - I'll take some pics and tell you about each one of the containers in more detail later on this summer. Most are starting to fill in now and just beginning to look good (gotta love that fish emulsion every few days) :-)

Thank you for this. I plant a number of containers (with mixed success) and I am very interested in your trials.

Great!

Will be anxious to see close-ups & what the winners are! Love the curve of the brick edging for what I assume is a path!

Love your idea of this trial. It will be so very helpful as I try to have containers in Full Sun. Thanks for doing this!
