Dianthus 'Neon Star'

Dianthus 'Neon Star'

Every year I can't resist trying a few new perennials....Either new to me or new on the market. I always manage to fit them in somewhere.

This new Dianthus (Pink) 'Neon Star' far outperformed any pink I have ever tried. It was in bloom when I brought it home and it is STILL blooming and budding in early September in afternoon shade! Colour IS a neon pink, it does have some scent and grows to 6 inches high.

Now I just have to see if it survives the winter. The tag says Zone 6...a little high for my 5B climate. With a bit of luck it might make it.

Dianthus stopped blooming
by: Beverly

Does the Dianthus need to be clipped after the flowers dry up and will they bloom again?

does the neon star repeat budding?
by: maria

I just bought 5 of them a few weeks ago...they are lovely. Only question is that alot of the buds have dried out already. Will they re-bud themselves? and should I just leave the dead looking buds alone?

Pretty !

Fern ... I really like the cool blueish/gray of the foliage with the hot pink of the flower ! I have been putting more pinks in myself .. they are little workhorses of the garden I'm finding .. I'll keep my eye out for that one .. but my zone is 5b too .. so a little iffy.
