Felco Hand Pruners Review

by Doug
(In His Garden)

When it comes to Felco hand pruners, there is simply no better choice to be made. Period.

Yes, they're a bit more expensive than other brands but they last for decades (I have the same pair I started out with in the nursery industry over 30 years ago)

They're a by-pass pruner and easier on the hands than other cheaper anvil types

They come in a wide variety of models depending on the task in hand.

Replaceable blades (and they come apart easily to remove and sharpen the blade)

They're large enough to fit comfortably in all but the largest hands (I have large hands and they fit fine with no finger crunching when the handles come together). If you're concerned about this, there are several different models with differing handle distances-apart.

This is a premium tool and would make an excellent gift (for yourself) :-) or a serious gardener. There is reason they sit on the hip of almost every commercial nursery worker - quality and workmanship combined with superior cutting power to make it easy on the hands.

Nursery people do so much cutting they simply need better tools.

Bottom line:

This is the best set of hand pruners on the market. They live on my hip when I go into the garden.

Tip: Buy the holster. Attach a big snap-ring or carabiniere to it so you can quick-clip to a belt buckle on your way out the door. That way the pruners stay within reach and can be put on or taken off easily. Yes, pros attach them their belts but who has the time or inclination to do that? Get a clip!

other best pruner for small hands
by: mm

I love the English made Burgon & Ball po cket pruner. I have small hands and it fits like a glove and gets in tight places for precision work. A bit harder to find but very comfortable and useful. All y other hand clippers are felco, I agree they work well and last for years

Doug"s Tool Reviews
by: Ken Cole

I have both of these tools. The Felco Hand Pruner I one in a draw from Sheridan Nurseries in 2006 Mississauga. I was going to look at these because of an article written by Doug and I strongly concur with Doug. This is a great tool!!

Last summer I purchased the Ho-mi also because of Doug's article back then. It also is a great tool. I have not sat on mine but I felt the pain when mentioned by Doug.

I love the reviews that you give us Doug. You are very clear and honest. When you did the Poulan Chainsaw I already knew what you were going to write as I own one myself. Terrible tool.
