Have a little bee with your Zinnia
by Carla
(Grand Rapids, Mi.)
bee's love them!
I planted these zinnia's from seed, I'm so pleased with the variety of colors and the fact that they just keep flowering! Not only do bees like them, but I've seen butterflies and even hummingbirds. Zinnia's have to be one of the easiest flowers to plant from seed, I don't know why I haven't tried them sooner. They make nice cuttings for vases too.

Doing Double Duty
We 've had a very dry summer. This picture was taken the morning after I had soaked this flower bed with a weeper hose. The extra moisture seemed to create nectar. The bees and butterflies were very busy feeding, which seemed to be the norm after watering took place.

I have a number of bird feeders in the garden and if I see something coming up I will let it grow just to see what turns out, the birds must have brought this in from one of the neighbors.

elephants knocking at the door
I am a novice gardener that got hold of some bulbs at the beginning of the season. I was firm in the belief that they were not going to grow. To my surprise they grew and are now half way up the wall of the house. I have resigned myself to shrug my shoulders and call it natural.
