Creepy Old Oak
This old oak has withstood many a storm. Has lost several huge limbs including the one that held our "old swing under the old oak tree". The virginia creeper and face give the oak a little character and also provide me with a "Magical Garden Protector."

Blue poppy?...No, Scabiosa (Pincushion Flower)
by Ferne
(Kamloops, B.C., Canada)
I'm a sucker for most flowers in this lavender blue colour and especially keen on this one. This perennial, large flowered type of Scabiosa has the prettiest of flowers, unlike the name pinned to it. It is also an easy to grow, trouble free plant that blooms from mid-summer to September with deadheading. I am looking forward to dividing this one next spring. This is one plant I won't be passing out to friends and neighbours any time soon....
For some reason you rarely see this grown in this part of the world. If you have access to some, you might want to give it a try. It does remind me of poppies with it's long wirey stems...but lasts much, much longer.
