Gardeners Journal - Growing Brunnera

by Doug

Brunnera is an amazing spring blooming perennial plant that's ideal for the shade garden.

Blooming in early spring with forget-me-not blue blossoms, this plant will win your heart.

Easily grown, there are several good varieties on the market - but the best is 'Jack Frost' shown in the video. It grows quite nicely and without fuss or muss, is easily divided when it gets too large (the regular variegated variety often reverts to straight green leaves when divided) and flowers for about 4-6 weeks in spring along with the daffodils.

During the summer in the shade garden, the variegated-silver leaves lend extra light and interest throughout the summer.

This is a good plant and this is what it looks like in my shade garden.
