This is the color the first few days.

This is the color the first few days.

This is the color the first few days. Here is a shot of the plant in mid summer. This is a mid-Oct. shot of the fading flowers.

Last fall I planted 3 tiny plugs of Hot Lava Echinacea. All 3 made it through a hard zone 5 winter and bloomed well for their first year. The color starts out orange-red and gradually fades to a more pink orange color. Height is listed as 3-4 feet. My were more like 2' this first year. Blooms started in June and are still blooming in late Oct. This is one I will continue to grow and may move to a more prominent spot in the garden next year. I gave them no water or fertilizer at all and they didn't seem to mind.

Hot Lava from Seed

I believe this is a hybrid, so probably will not bloom true from seeds.

Susan: Do you know if this variety will bloom true from seed, or do you have to purchase individual plants? If from seed, do you have any to exchange/ purchase? Thanks!
