REGARDING JUNE GARDENS
by: Ferne, Kamloops, British Columbia, (semi-desert, western Canada.

An attractive picture of a nice lily.

Dear Liz:
There is no doubt that California has some weather advantages for many gardeners...

BUT: A tip about flowers in JUNE. IF you are a beginning gardener this might (or might not) help, depending on your situation:
Take a look next JUNE around gardens that are in your area. You may be suffering from that pause that happens around that time in most gardens in slightly more northerly climates... (noting, that I am not knowledgeable, regarding more southerly climates). Make note exactly what is blooming for others in areas similar to yours AT THAT TIME and get some of those plants when you can. Many plants rest after the spring and others haven't started blooming in June...but there are some that do...just not as many.

If you were just lamenting the ability of Californians to grow anything their hearts desire...well, it could be worse!...Try gardening in a zone 1 or 2 area in Northern Canada and you would appreciate your New York climate just a tad more....there is always someone with more of a challenge....unless you live at the North Pole, that is.
Hope this might be of some help to someone, somewhere at least.
