No weeding required

I used 31 gal Rubbermaid toters, drilled holes in the bottom, placed the lids on top of bricks, puts some drainage rocks in the bottom of each toter, then a layer of black fabric to prevent the soil from washing out. Finally filled each container with organic soil before my first planting of three different lettuces, swiss chard, radishes, carrots, beets, broccoli, cabbage, green and yellow beans. My squash, zucchini and eggplant are now being picked. I have replanted broccoli, lettuce, spinach and the beans. I have tried to plant the seeds and seedlings at varying times so everything doesn't come in at one ... I get enough each day to add something from our garden to our daily meals. I even used the carrot tops that were pulled when I thinned the carrots adding the tops to soups, roasted turkey and salads. The young beet tops were excellant on top of our salads and as a garnish to our sandwiches and wraps. The radish greens went through the food processor and were added to cream of asparagus soup. Late fall and early spring I am going to try to turn some of the containers in cold frames. This has been a really fun gardening project. No weeding required, no mass invasion of bugs, no getting down on my hands and knees.
