Pine Grosbeaks

by Carol
(northern BC)

We live in the far north so our bird variety is limited.
Pine & Evening Grosbeaks are regulars in the winter at our feeders along with chickadees and squirrels.
The color on the backs of these birds is intense

BIRD SWIMMING POOL
by: Ferne, Kamloops, B. C.

A nice shot Carol. I know how difficult it can be to get one like this...I have spent many hours and many days working at getting good bird pictures when it isn't so cold.

I'm just getting into the winter feeding thing, so have lots to learn about this yet. Just bought a big dog dish with a plug-in for heat, so I can supply winter water for a bath and drinks for the birds (don't own a dog). Just need to string a cord with some water proofing. It looks like I picked a good year to try it with the weather we are being promised for this winter..."Colder than it has been on average for the last 15 years."

I hope our little friends appreciate their new swimming pool and make good use of it. The Thompson River is half frozen already today and I saw only a couple of Juncos flitting about when I went out to have a look.
