Rodent Repellent
I use something like this with my (unfortunately non-patentable) remedy to control a super-big rodent - groundhogs. take a 7th-inning stretch and pee down their holes. I know a lot of gardeners who use something similar to mark their territories to discourage a wide variety of critters such as deer.
If You're Bashful
You may not find it convenient in your neighborhood to do what I do out in the country so you might want to experiment with a bit of organic solution. This is an herbal smell rodent repellent that comes highly rated
Some folks don't like the idea of herbal "pillows" with liquid drops etc and prefer the convenience of shaking small pellets out to deter rodents.
Shake Away is a pelleted product that repels rodents and comes highly recommended
Sound Waves
I've had some folks tell me these sound waves (ultrasound you can't hear) work on mice in the house. I tried them and my take is that they might work for a short time but if you run them constantly, they will lose their "rodent repellent" value - the critters will get used to them. So you either have to put them on a timer or run them intermittently in some way. That's assuming they did work - it's really hard to know in an old stone farmhouse basement.
