Shasta Daisy 'Banana Cream'

I am becoming a bit of a cynic regarding the latest, greatest, new and "improved" perennials that hit the market regularly each spring. Some work, some definitely do not. Shasta Daisy 'Banana Cream' is a not.

I'm not fussy about white flowers, and white daisies in particular, so when 'Banana Cream' came on the market, with it's promise of soft yellow flowers, I went "Yum, that's for me"! So I spent more than I normally would for this number in a six inch pot when I came across it at my favourite nursery.

Flowers were a very pale yellow/cream at first but soon faded to white. This mature plant was treated with extra care but failed to produce a second flush of flowers. Didn't make it through the winter in my Zone 5b Canadian garden either in the sunny North Okanagan, B.C. despite it's zone 4 U.S. rating.

I too was impressed by the pretty Banana Daisy and planted it in the garden. The bloom died within 2 weeks. I deadheaded it but it did not bloom again. Yes, it is in full sun. Paid $11.00 for one lousy bloom. I'm normally not a daisy person but thought this particular one was pretty.

Not impressed so much anymore.

I understand. It takes growers alot of time and money to produce something new. Unfortunately, we pay the price for some of their mistakes.
