Reviews of Garden Shrubs for Landscaping

This plant review page, focuses on shrubs for landscaping purposes. I welcome you adding your reviews or commenting on mine.

These reviews come directly from my own experiences in my own garden where I grow the plants that I review. Sometimes, nurseries send them to me for review and at other times, they come out of my own budget. In all cases, what I write about is what happens in my garden. I have no financial interests in any nursery or in promoting any plant.

One of the delights of growing shrubs is that you can design a shrub garden very much like a perennial garden. It's possible to match leaf color or contrast and season-long color and to include the relatively short bloom time of the flowers in your design.

As one form of landscape design, try not to look at shrubs as just a garden filler, instead look at them as the main backbone of the garden and use perennials and annuals flowers as ornaments.  It's another way to create a low-maintenance garden.

Lilac 'Bloomerang Purple' a repeat blooming lilac that needs proper pruning to get two bloom flushes a year - here's how.
Spirea 'Double Play Big Bang' is a repeat blooming spirea in my garden with red tinged foliage and delightful flowers
Pearlbush 'Snow Day Surprise' is a interesting shrub with unusual flower forms. Well worth growing for those flowers
Clethra 'Vanilla Spice' also known as Summersweet 'Vanilla Spice' a sweetly scented shrub that does well on damper soils.
