Sun Loving Perennials
These are aggressive spreaders that you're definitely going to see advertised in garden centers but they all should come with a warning - you control them or they turn into weeds.
The full sun garden is a bit of a problem in that high heat levels can decimate flower production rather quickly. And while many of these plants will survive drought and high heat, the first thing you have to understand as a gardener is that water stress reduces flower production. A plant tends to shut down flower production as a first line of defense to stress. If you reduce the water, you reduce the flowering.
So here are a few garden plants that survive best in the high heat.

Achillea. A real sunlover and a bit of a thug. It can spread and become invasive in a good garden.

Campanula carpatica a long bloomer for sun or part shade. Self sows with abandon if happy but easily controlled.

Campanula persificolia is another long bloomer but a prolific self sowing plant. This is a little more difficult to control than it's shorter cousin above but I still like it anyway The yellow flower in the background is helenium and I think they make a decent perennial combination.
