Trillium

Trillium

When we moved to our house here in Northeast Indiana, there was this lovely bed of lilies of the valley. In the center was a vast clump of trillium and after living here 37 years, the lilies have indeed choked out the large trillium group, but bravely sends out other plants dotted here and there throughout the lilies of the valley. This same "wildflower" garden has grown itself some bloodroot, shooting stars, wild stonecrop, violets of varying colors, and stars of Bethlehem. I pretty much let things go their own way, and I love the resulting surprises!

lily of the valley are easy to grow, if you know of someone who has them ask if you can have a couple of plants. They spread like crazy and like the shade. Mine are on the one whole side of our house and you can smell them all over the front and back yard! Or you can buy them. Either way they are so eaasy to grow.

Sharing my wealth

Yes, I share lilies of the valley. I am feeling very generous, as it is such a huge bumper crop this year. I guess they LIKE dreadful cold, extended icy winters!

Love the Trillium, mum!

That wildflower garden looks so lush! I can imagine that your children must have tried to plant peach pits, cherry pits and apple seeds there many times... but clearly the Lilies O' the Valley must have choked them out!

Beautiful! And I am so envious of Barb's ability to identify wildflowers..I am working on it!

Jealousy!

Your trillium are to die for. You say they grew there on their own? How lucky! I was wondering if you ever share your lilies of the valley with anyone. Are they easy to transplant? I'll bet they smell heavenly on your porch that I just know is nearby...
